Aaron Bushnell, 25, Succumbs to Injuries

Washington, D.C. - A United States Air Force serviceman, Senior Airman Aaron Bushnell, passed away on February 25, 2024, after setting himself on fire outside the Embassy of Israel in Washington, D.C.

According to reports, Bushnell, a 25-year-old Whitman, Massachusetts native, approached the embassy on Sunday afternoon. He doused himself with accelerant and set his Air Force uniform alight. Bystanders witnessed the horrific incident and immediately notified authorities.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene and extinguished the flames. However, Bushnell sustained critical injuries and succumbed to his wounds hours later at George Washington University Hospital.

Bushnell was reportedly an IT engineer-in-training at the time of his death. His motive for setting himself on fire remains unknown, but some speculate it was an act of protest related to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.

The incident has sparked an investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department of Columbia Heights and the Air Force Office of Special Investigations. The Embassy of Israel has also released a statement expressing condolences to Bushnell's family and loved ones.

The death of Senior Airman Bushnell is a tragic loss for his family, the Air Force, and the nation. His sacrifice brings attention to the ongoing challenges of mental health and the need for support for our service members.
